About Explorers

Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old; and make up the fourth section of the Scouting family.

It is here that the adventure goes to the next level, as we provide a balanced programme of activities around 6 key areas: Values and Relationships, Community Service, Physical Recreation, Skills, Global and Outdoor and Adventure.

This is where international trips and expeditions start to become more readily available, the activities get bigger and better; and there still remains a range of ambitious badges and awards (including D of E) through which Explorers can demonstrate proficiency and expand their interests.

Explorers is a District based section, meaning groups or “Units” as they are called (typically of 10 - 20 members each) operate individually throughout Stretford. As a District provision, members often get the opportunity to meet up with / arrange activities alongside other Explorers Scouts in the local community.

Here in Stretford we have three units:

Rylands ESU
base in Longford Park

Shackleton ESU
base in Lostock

Stellar ESU
the District's Young Leader Section
