Active Support Update

In 2012 the Scout Active Support unit have a busy first quarter which saw us assisting the Cubs at their District Swimmers badge in February. We judged the various stages and assisted the ADC with the organisation on the night.

We then organised Stretford District’s annual Swimming Gala in March. This evening is always a popular event and this year saw winners from a number of groups within the District which was nice to see the trophies being shared. Thanks to Graeme and Ruth for returning from Cornwall especially to assist on the night – thanks also to everyone else who came down and helped in the judging and organisation on the night. Next  year we will be looking at approaching Salford to take the lead in the organisation of the event as we share the gala each year.

In April we will be running a base at the County Lord Derby for the Scouts section. Ideas are currently being debated – volunteers to help man the base on the day would be most welcome.

Lastly for this report we will be supporting the BUPA Manchester run again in May. This will be the third year in a row we have been asked to be on hand to man the BUPA Boost zone which involves handing out jelly babies to the participants. This year we will also be volunteering at the Children’s mini marathon and Young person’s run on the Saturday 19th May as well as turning out in force at the main eventon Sunday 20th May. I have provisionally said 10 people for the Saturday and 25 for the Sunday so please make every effort to come along and join in the fun on either (or both!) days. I know the County Day of Excellence is on the Saturday so I understand some of the Leaders have prior commitments however parents and exec members/supporters of the District are more than welcome to help on the Saturday if they wish. Please contact me for more details.

We also have a new nationally recognised ‘casual uniform’ dedicated solely to the
SAS. There is a green SAS polo shirt, and a maroon/white necker which we will be
wearing at the events to distinguish ourselves as a unit. Neckers can be purchased
from me at a small charge if you wish to support the unit. Alternatively we have a few
spares on hand to lend to ‘adhoc’ supporters of the SAS at District events.

For any more information or to support us at any of the events mentioned above please feel free to drop me a mail and be a part of the success in Stretford’s Scouting.
